The MAOUDC is a 6.3 km long system of tunnels, 22 meters underground, with 70 meter tall cylindrical tanks, where each tank is large enough to fit a space shuttle or the Statue of Liberty. Koizumi et al. reported that home ranges of raccoon dogs in summer–autumn varied from 7 to 37 ha. To understand the amount of habitat necessary to maintain urban raccoon dog populations, it is paramount to clarify annual, seasonal, and sexual variation in home range sizes of raccoon dogs in urban environments. If an urban green area is a suitable habitat for raccoon dogs, their home range sizes should be smaller than those of raccoon dogs in rural areas. These attractions show up on most tourists’ bucket lists, but Japan’s capital city—home to some 14 million people—is even more extensive than you might think.
You can think of them a bit like what Manhattan Island is to New York or the innermost arrondissements are to Paris. The central 5 wards are, besides a few up-and-coming contestors, the most popular wards to live in or have your office address in. Unsurprisingly, they also command the highest land prices and rents. In Japan, the difficulties experienced by foreigners who move into rental housing have been reported only by media or government questionnaire surveys, and there is little quantitative evidence. We conduct a correspondence study to observe discrimination against foreigners in rental housing markets in Tokyo's 23 wards during December 2019 and February 2020. Our results show that those who use a Chinese or Korean name decrease their probability of receiving affirmative responses to rental applications by approximately 13% compared with those who use Japanese names.
The first one is just the re-sized Londons, the next one has labels too and the one after that shows the urban fabric to you can get a sense of the underlying settlement pattern in the south east of England. Because I live in the UK, about 175 miles from London, and because London is the only big city I know fairly well, I'm going to use Londons to make more sense of the Tokyos above. What I did was take the shape of Greater London and then resize it to match the four different definitions of 'Tokyo' above. To be clear, though, when I say 'London' I am using it as shorthand for Greater London - that is, the 32 Boroughs plus the City of London that have a combined population of 9 million people.
Also, the winters in Japan can get very dry, so I would encourage families with children or even adults with dry skin and atopic eczema to invest in a good humidifier and also a hygrometer to check on the humidity in the room is comfortable. People who have atopic eczema have a more serious problem and I recommend that if your skin condition has not improved after you have diligently applied a good moisturizer, then it is time to see a dermatologist. For dermatology, fortunately or unfortunately, most times, the patient is able to see the skin problem. He or she can often point out to the doctor/dermatologist what he or she is concerned about. With cosmetic issues, Asians, including Japanese, tend to be more concerned about skin pigmentation, whereas Caucasians tend to have problems like broken veins, redness of the skin and early skin wrinkling. Due to the limited number of doctors in Japan familiar with foreigners and medical situations outside of Japan, we offer some services in documentation for travelers/students, etc.
This structure, with special wards, was created under Japanese Local Autonomy Law and is unique to the Tokyo Metropolis. There is no special government body that governs the 23 wards only; they are governed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government just like all the other parts of the metropolis. The former city of Tokyo and the majority of Tokyo prefecture lie in the humid subtropical climate zone (Köppen climate classification Cfa), with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters with occasional cold spells. The region, like much of Japan, experiences a one-month seasonal lag, with the warmest month being August, which averages 26.4 °C (79.5 °F), and the coolest month being January, averaging 5.2 °C (41.4 °F). The record low temperature is −9.2 °C (15.4 °F) on January 13, 1876, while the record high is 39.5 °C (103.1 °F) on July 20, 2004. The record highest low temperature is 30.3 °C (86.5 °F) on August 12, 2013, making Tokyo one of only seven observation sites in Japan that have recorded a low temperature over 30 °C (86.0 °F).
