A slide-on camper is simply a ute camper that slides onto the back of a pickup/utility vehicle that has a flat tray or platform it can be mounted on. The idea is that we can put less than totally clean water in our fresh water tank and  use this water for showers and washing. The RO system filters this water to 99.9% pure giving us clean, safe drinking water. The system has its own 10-liter storage tank which is pressurised and we have a second faucet on the sink for the finished product. As you should expect with a 10-foot tall vehicle, there is some sway, but most people are pleasantly surprised. My camper with a boat in tow is better than towing with a caravan.

In the USA they put them on the back of a two tonne  ute which they call a 3/4 tonne pickup? The terminology is not as important as the reasoning behind it. Not all of us are tradies, delivery guys or farmers that have a tray back ute eady to slide the camper onto. One of the lightest camper’s dry weight – that is the weight out the factory door before you fill the water tank, add food and drinks, etc, are about 400kg. That leaves you about 100kg left – the weight of just 100 litres of water. So don’t pack too much food or think about taking bikes or spare tyres. A GVM upgrade will increase your payload by about 300Kg which will generally keep you in the safe zone.
